Yep. That’s the question that concerns me too. But as a college freshman fresh from New York City.  As an author of Accidental Soldier: A Memoir of Service and Sacrifice in the Israel Defense Forces, I’m revisiting this story again by sharing with you short video “sneak peaks” of each chapter.

So here we go…

As you listen to this sneak peak, do you think as an 18 year old, I manage to get over my fears and insecurities of IDF soldiers knowing that I have a really nervous Mom who hates Israel? Obviously, there’s a push-pull around Israel and the IDF. Part of the fear comes from my Mom, but the real attraction comes from the fact that I’m of Israeli blood.

I don’t want to spoil the entire chapter for you, so why not just check out the video for yourself?

And I’ll leave you off with a short little snippet:

I take one step closer to the Jeep, aware of the boundaries between us. I am a volunteer. There are male soldiers. But I am not your typical kibbutz volunteer. First, I’m Jewish; second, I’ve got an Israeli father; and third, I speak better-than-average Hebrew.

What do you think of myself as a character?
